Rambling Roots Hostel began as a dream. Rambling Roots owner, Bookie, had no idea when she started her journey of 2,189.3 miles along the Appalachian Trail, in 2015, that her bond with the community would grow into a passion. Bookie and her dog, No Shame, spent 7 months hiking from Georgia to Maine along one of the longest footpaths in North America. After completing this journey she returned to the trail community while managing The Notch Hostel in North Woodstock, New Hampshire. During her time there the dream started to take shape.

After searching for 4 years Bookie found the perfect spot for Rambling Roots Hostel to start its journey.

Bookie:
A New Hampshire native, who was introduced to North Carolina in 2007, during an internship working with kids with ADD/ADHD and LD in an outdoor adventure program. During the two years she spent in NC she fell in love with the mountains and the area surrounding the Nantahala Gorge. When Bookie isn’t at the hostel she enjoys white water guiding on the Nantahala River, hiking with her dogs, and making fabric art.

Star/No Shame:
The mascot of Rambling Roots Hostel. Star was an avid adventurer in her younger years, now rolling into year 14 she is content to lay in the sun, go on short hikes, and clean the floors of any crumbs. Star is happy to show you where the food is kept and a comfy chair.

Skill: cleaning every last crumb of food out of a package.

Tellico:
The newest member to the family. Tellico came into the hostel as a foster puppy who never left. She is the life of the party. She loves people and just can’t get enough of them. The edge of the river is her favorite place when she isn’t sitting on the porch keeping an eye on the parking lot.

Skill: a bounce like Tigger, sock removal

Teeka:
There is a saying out there about Torbie cats being sassy and it is true! This lady is full of spunk. She has come out of her shell over the past couple of months and enjoys meeting new folks. Cheeks scritches are her favorite.

Ninja skill: opening cupboards and drawers.

Faeden:
This young cat is a North Carolina Native. He is an elusive guy happiest left to himself. He is a keen observer and has been working hard to keep the moth population in the hostel at zero. Skill: High fives
